Stephanie D. Vance, also known as the “Advocacy Guru”, is the author of five books including Citizens in Action: A Guide to Influencing Government and the recently released The Influence Game. She’s a 25 year veteran of Washington, D.C. political scene and has held positions as a lobbyist, grassroots consultant and Congressional aide.
Stephanie’s experiences as a legislative director and Chief of Staff on Capitol Hill led her to found Advocacy Associates, a firm dedicated to helping individuals and organizations be both heard and agreed with in the legislative environment. To achieve that goal she provides in-person and online trainings for thousands of advocates around the world.
Ms. Vance holds a Master’s Degree in Legislative Affairs from George Washington University and a Master’s Degree in Liberal Studies at Georgetown University. She lives and works in Washington D.C..
Jason Jordan is a principal partner in the public affairs firm of Advocacy Associates. The firm specializes in political advocacy training and consulting, including grassroots programs, issue campaign development and implementation, lobbying, campaign management, and general government relations consulting. The firm helps people and organizations influence public policy through effective grassroots campaigns.
Jason Jordan has spent more than a decade helping organizations, candidates, and causes succeed in the political arena. Before joining Advocacy Associates, Jordan spent six years as the director of government relations for the American Planning Association in Washington, D.C. where he was the organization’s senior lobbyist and managed grassroots programs. He has a broad background in association management having also led policy and advocacy initiatives for a diverse array of organizations, including the Council for Urban Economic Development, National Association of Installation Developers, and the American Chamber of Commerce Executives. In addition to orchestrating grassroots and lobbying initiatives, he has been a leader in public policy related to community development, transportation and smart growth.
Previously, Jordan worked for former United States Senator Max Cleland. In addition, he has broad political campaign experience having managed field operations and provided general strategic guidance for both congressional and statewide campaigns. An Atlanta native, Jordan has degrees from Emory University and American University.
Tess Hembree joined Advocacy Associates in January of 2009 and currently works as the Policy Manager. Tess coordinates the team’s federal policy work and provides legislative monitoring on a range of issues including housing, community development, mortgage finance, appropriations, sustainability, infrastructure, and health care. She also provides in-house advocacy and grassroots expertise to clients, and direct advocacy support when necessary.
Tess has a B.A. in political science with an emphasis in journalism from Western Washington University.
Kaytee Yakacki joined the Advocacy Associates team in January of 2011. She handles scheduling and logistics for our “Stress-Free Advocacy Days” service and for advocacy training and events.
She graduated from Hofstra University in 2009 where she studied Print Journalism and Political Science. Kaytee worked on the Hill as a Congressional Press Intern, and she was a Campus Outreach Ambassador for the ONE Campaign to end global poverty.
Kirsten joined the Advocacy Associates Team in January 2014. As a Policy Associate, she works on federal legislative monitoring for clients on various issues including transportation, health care, and environmental conservation. She also assists clients with advocacy and grassroots support. In addition, Kirsten manages social media and newsletter outreach, ballot measure tracking, and website operations for the Center for Transportation Excellence.
Prior to joining Advocacy Associates, Kirsten interned for Senator Kay Hagan (NC), worked on two political campaigns, and interned in the Economic and Commerce Bureau at the Jordanian Embassy in Washington, DC. She holds a B.A. in Political Science and International Studies from Elon University.
Kristina Samonte joined Advocacy Associates in spring 2016 as Director of Business Development and Communications. She is a former elected official from New Jersey, and has more than a decade worth of policy success and expertise in communications, grassroots advocacy and public affairs in the private sector and at local, state and federal levels of government.
Kristina’s primary focus is to develop and implement growth opportunities for Advocacy Associates and create awareness for our products and brands. Advocacy Associates understands that maintaining strong relationships with clients and anticipating the challenging demands they face is important. In this capacity, Kristina’s goal is to create a winning value proposition through strategic management and partnerships that continue to fuel the success of our advocacy client base.
Kristina has a B.A. in International Studies from George Mason University.
