Maximizing Advocacy Day Schedules

The American Alliance of Museums asks:

Can Advocacy Associates help us work directly with advocates to maximize their Advocacy Day schedules? Our membership presents unique challenges that require individual attention.

Background

The American Alliance of Museums holds an annual Advocacy Day in which a large portion of participants consist of experienced advocates who return year after year. Many of their veteran members have developed relationships with multiple legislators in and around their home district and museum locations or have goals for expanding their outreach further.

Advocacy Associates Strategy

Advocacy Associates works with the Alliance to address the individual concerns of their advocates and ensure that they get to meet with every congressional office they wish to see. Advocacy Associates staff communicated directly with advocates on a case-by-case basis to tend to special requests and assist advocates in structuring their hill day schedule.

Results

In 2013, one third of Advocacy Day participants had 5 or more meetings on their schedule. Advocates ranged from as low as 2 or 3 meetings (for those preferring a lighter day on the hill) to as high as 7 to 11 meetings (for those who requested a full day of meetings).
